Privacy Policy

Drowze ("we", "our", "the app") is a sleep sounds and night light app for iOS. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect, what we don't, and how your information is handled.

What We Collect

Drowze collects minimal, anonymous usage analytics through TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service. This includes:

• App launch events
• Sound names played and mix save events
• Timer usage and night light activation
• Purchase events (product selected, not payment details)
• Device type and OS version (aggregated, not tied to you)

None of these signals are tied to your identity. TelemetryDeck does not collect personal data, does not use advertising identifiers, and does not track users across apps. Learn more at telemetrydeck.com/privacy.

Sleep Coach & Third-Party Processing

Drowze's premium Sleep Coach feature uses Anthropic's Claude to provide personalized sleep guidance. When you use this feature:

• Your conversation messages, mood ratings, and sleep preference selections are sent to Anthropic's Claude API through a secure proxy server operated by Drowze (hosted on Cloudflare Workers).
• Your IP address is processed by our proxy server solely for rate limiting and is not stored or logged.
• Apple's App Attest device verification is used to ensure requests come from genuine devices. This involves device-level cryptographic keys — no personal data is collected as part of this process.
• Anthropic processes your messages to generate responses. Anthropic's data handling is governed by their privacy policy. Per Anthropic's API terms, your inputs and outputs are not used to train their models.
• Our proxy server does not log or store conversation content. It validates, rate-limits, and forwards requests in real time.

The Sleep Coach is scoped strictly to sleep, relaxation, and wellness topics. The system includes guardrails to prevent off-topic use and detects crisis-related keywords to direct users to appropriate resources.

What We Do NOT Collect

• No email addresses or account information (the Sleep Coach may learn your first name if you share it, but this is stored only on your device)
• No location data
• No contacts, photos, or other personal files
• No advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking
• No health or biometric data

Data Stored on Your Device

Drowze stores the following locally on your device:

• Your saved sound presets and sleep session history (via SwiftData)
• App settings and preferences (via UserDefaults)
• Sleep Coach conversation history, mood logs, and your sleep preference profile (via SwiftData)
• Session limits and device attestation keys (via the iOS Keychain, per-device only, not synced)

This data never leaves your device unless you have iCloud sync enabled or you use the Sleep Coach feature (see above).

Drowze uses background audio to continue playing sounds when the screen is off or the app is in the background. No data is collected during background audio playback.

iCloud Sync

If you enable iCloud sync on your device, your saved presets, sleep session history, Sleep Coach conversations, and Sleep Coach preference profile may sync across your Apple devices via Apple's iCloud service. This data is handled entirely by Apple under their privacy policy. We have no access to your iCloud data.

Subscriptions & Purchases

In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store any payment information. Your subscription receipt may be verified via Apple's App Store Server API to confirm premium entitlements for features like the Sleep Coach.

Children's Privacy

Drowze does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The Sleep Coach feature processes conversation text through third-party AI services as described above. Parents and guardians should be aware of this when allowing children to use the Sleep Coach feature.

Data Retention

App data (presets, settings, Sleep Coach history) is stored locally on your device and persists until you delete the app. If iCloud sync is enabled, synced data is retained per Apple's iCloud policies. TelemetryDeck retains anonymous analytics data per their retention policy. Sleep Coach conversations processed by Anthropic are subject to Anthropic's data retention policy. Our proxy server does not retain conversation data.

Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Under the GDPR, CCPA, and similar privacy regulations, you have rights to access, delete, and port your personal data. Drowze does not maintain user accounts. Data stored on your device can be deleted by removing the app. For Sleep Coach data processed by Anthropic, please refer to Anthropic's privacy policy for their data subject rights process. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
